A CHANCE TO REVAMP YOUR QUERY

With agents and publishers getting ready to close or already have closed down queries for November and December, this is the time to revamp your query. I know. I know, no one wants to hear this. But it's true.

Right now, if you are roaming in and out of Instagram along with Twitter, there are so many amazing tips on querying. From the beginning of the Dear..., there are some tips floating where you no longer write, Dear Mr./Mrs./Ms./Miss, it is smart to check the agent's site to see if they have mentioned how they want to be referred to. Personally, I have sent queries with, Dear. Mx. and Dear Agent's First and Last Name. Don't be afraid to mention or ask on Twitter, someone will let you know.

Personalization. It's good to know something about the agent. Now I'm not saying telling them something like they drink mocha coffee with cinnamon on top and so do you. I mean have you read any of the author's books they represent or is your book already or could be comped with a book they represent? Don't forget to read their MSWL completely before you send them something.

This is your chance to tighten up your book's pitch. Instead of four paragraphs, strive to limit it to two paragraphs. If you have pitched in any Twitter Pitches, think of your book pitch as a Twitter pitch. Get to the meat of the story, but don't give everything away. Tease, tease, tease.

Make sure you say a sentence or two about yourself. Never forget they are human and so are you. Tell them something unique about yourself and how the book you are querying applies to your life - what connects you to it. Then list your achievements in writing.

Always have a call to action. Ask if they would like to read it... you never know what will happen.

Good luck in querying y'all. Never stop reaching for your dreams.
